Understanding "Compounding" like never before!

The Power of Compounding: How a Small Investment Grows Into a Fortune

If someone told you that a single investment of ₹50,000 could quietly turn into a serious sum of money without you lifting a finger, would you believe it? That's exactly what compounding does — and it's one of the most important financial concepts you'll ever come across.

The Two Essential Ingredients

Every compounding story starts with two things: the money you invest, and the return you earn on it. Let's say you invest ₹50,000 and earn a 30% return each period. That's an aggressive return, sure, but it makes the math dramatic and easy to follow. And once you grasp how it works at 30%, you'll instantly understand how it works at 10%, 15%, or whatever rate you're realistically targeting.

Here's where it gets interesting.

The Golden Rule: Your Return Is a Multiplier

Here's the trick that makes everything click. Your return rate translates directly into a multiplier you apply to your money every single period:

  • 30% return → multiply by 1.3
  • 40% return → multiply by 1.4
  • 50% return → multiply by 1.5
  • 10% return → multiply by 1.1
  • 5% return → multiply by 1.05

So when someone says they're getting a 30% return, what they're really saying is: every period, my money gets multiplied by 1.3. Simple. Now here's where the magic begins.

The First Seven Cycles: Watch ₹50,000 Grow

Take your ₹50,000 and apply that 1.3 multiplier once. Then take the result and apply it again. And again. Here's what happens over just the first seven cycles:

| Cycle | Value | |---|---| | 1 | ₹65,000 | | 2 | ₹84,500 | | 3 | ₹109,850 | | 4 | ₹142,805 | | 5 | ₹185,647 | | 6 | ₹241,340 | | 7 | ₹313,743 |

Look at that — after just seven cycles, your ₹50,000 has grown to over ₹313,000. You've more than six times your money. And notice something important: the gaps between each row keep getting bigger. That's compounding. You're not just earning returns on your original ₹50,000 — you're earning returns on the returns.

Keep Going: Five More Cycles

Now here's the fun part. Let's take that ₹313,743 and compound it for five more cycles at the same 30% rate. Multiply by 1.3, then again, then again, then again, then again.

| Cycle | Value | |---|---| | 8 | ₹407,865 | | 9 | ₹530,225 | | 10 | ₹689,292 | | 11 | ₹896,080 | | 12 | ₹1,164,904 |

Five additional cycles — just five — and your balance blows past ₹1.16 million. In those five extra periods, you added over ₹850,000 to your account. That's the power of compounding in action. The later cycles produce far more wealth than the early ones, even though the percentage return is identical every single time.

The Rule of More Cycles: Time Is Your Best Friend

Now let's bring the return rate down to something more realistic — say, 18%. Still strong, but far more attainable than 30%. If you compound ₹50,000 at 18% for twenty cycles, here's what the math looks like:

₹50,000 × 1.18 × 1.18 × 1.18 × ... twenty times total

That compounds to roughly ₹1.37 million. From a ₹50,000 starting point, just because you gave it time. The rate was
